Licensed Massage Therapists (LMT) are in high demand in Michigan, with positions available in chiropractic offices, wellness centers, salons, schools and even with athletic teams! The Naturopathic Institute of Therapies & Education (NITE) was one of the original massage therapy programs in the state of Michigan when it was founded in 1983. We are accredited by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) to prepare students for the Massage & Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx) certification.

Frequently Asked Questions About Reflexology and Massage School

How should I choose the best massage therapy school near me?

Starting on Google is a great first step. You can also contact local therapists working in your area to find out where they went to school and get recommendations. When you get a shortlist of massage therapy programs to research, look for accreditations. The NCBTMB is the main accreditation board for massage schools in Michigan and around the country.

You should also generally look at programs that have existed for more than a decade and which have a great track record of students passing the MBLEx. Make sure to ask what their passing rate is for alumni.

How much does massage therapy school cost?

We like to be fully transparent with pricing for our programs. The Therapeutic Bodywork Practitioner program full tuition cost is $6,600, but we offer a discounted rate of $5,995 for students who pay in full prior to the program start date. Payment plans are also available for students over the course of the 12-month program.

You can find all of our program enrollment forms and information here.

Should I be a massage therapist?

Great question! Massage therapy is not a career for everyone. If you love inter-personal relationships, are okay with physical contact, have an entrepreneurial spirit and you love helping people be their healthiest selves, then you should absolutely be a massage therapist! It will become a continually rewarding, lifelong career.

What do you learn in massage therapy school?

The foundation of the program includes, but not limited to, Basic Swedish Massage, anatomy and physiology, ethics, professionalism, Neuro-Muscular, Neuro-Lymphatic, Neuro-Vascular massage, Myofasia, pregnancy and infant massage, and more! Added to that is learning the proper uses of essential oils, reflexology and nutrition to equip you with the right skill sets and knowledge to be a wellness mentor for your clients.

Will I have my massage therapy certification when I graduate?

When you graduate from our 12-month Therapeutic Bodywork Practitioner course, you will have all the fundamental and advanced knowledge of massage therapy as well as more than the required 625 hours of study needed to pass the MBLEx. Once you successfully complete the MBLEx and background checks, you will qualify for a license to practice in the state of Michigan.

How long will the massage therapy program take to complete?

The NITE massage therapy curriculum consists of 625 hours of study and 100 hours of independent study over 12 months. This meets the requirements of the state of Michigan.
