In 2026, we are rolling out our newest program offering: The Emphasis Certification Program.This new program is all about life-long learning, and it will give students, alumni, and guests the opportunity to take classes for certification, CEUs, or for personal and professional development.

These classes are perfect for:

  • Students and Alumni Wanting an Emphasis Certification: New and current degree-seeking students and alumni who want to dive deeper into a topic outside of their Naturopathic Health Practitioner or Therapeutic Bodywork Practitioner degrees.
  • New Students Wanting an Emphasis Certification: New students who aren’t in our NH or TBP programs, or non-degree NH and TBP students who only want to get a certification in one of our Emphasis Departments
  • Practitioners Seeking CEUs: Alumni or practitioners who want to take one class to get continuing education credits.
  • People Seeking Personal Development: Anyone interested in learning more about natural health! You do not need to pursue a certification to take any of the Emphasis Courses.

Advance your massage therapy skills and earn certification with specialized training beyond the basics.

Explore the body's natural energy systems and how they influence overall health. The program focuses on developing intuitive intelligence to read energetic data and apply advanced energy work techniques.

Advanced Naturopathic Sciences

This emphasis explores the body at the deepest level through advanced study of cellular and holistic sciences. Prerequisites required: Anatomy I–III, Biology, Iridology, Vaccines and Environmental Poisons I & II, Sclerology, and Evaluation and Assessment.

Food Revolution

This program explores nutrition from the ground up, covering soil health, food preparation, nutrients, additives, and personalized dietary approaches.

Herbology

This program begins with 20-hour foundational classes on herbal remedies, focusing on plant chemistry, classification, and identification.

Holistic Family Medicine

This program teaches about healthy reproduction and raising children from the very beginning through the teenage years. It covers the stages of life for both women and men, and includes the opportunity to study the role of a doula, or a birth helper.

Homesteading

This emphasis focuses on homesteading and building stronger communities through hands-on skills. Students learn soil preparation, gardening, food preservation, animal husbandry, crop management, and foraging.

Self-Healing

This emphasis is designed for anyone on the path of self-healing and is especially useful for health practitioners. By learning to heal themselves, students gain the ability to help others more effectively without taking on their clients' struggles.

In this program, students study vibrational healing through both naturopathy and emphasis classes. They discover how energy and vibration function as subtle yet powerful tools to enhance health.

General Program Questions

An Emphasis Certification is a specialized track that allows you to focus on a particular area of natural health, such as Advanced Bodywork, Herbology, or Self-Healing. Unlike a full diploma or degree, it is designed as a concentrated program of study that can be completed alongside your Natural Health training or on its own.

Yes. New students, alumni, and even guests are welcome to pursue Emphasis Certifications. If you are not enrolled in a diploma program, you will still need to complete the designated core classes along with the one-day emphasis classes for certification.

Yes, you need to enroll in each certification department separately.

There is no strict deadline, but since not all classes are offered every year, your completion time depends on class availability and how quickly you meet the requirements.

You can pause your progress and resume later. Your academic advisor can help you plan a flexible timeline that works for your schedule.

Yes, it can count toward a certification if you decide to pursue a certification within two years of taking the class. However, you will have to complete the homework and the test from the class and pay the additional $30 fee it costs for certification students.

Enrollment & Requirements

Your academic advisor will review your current program year and completed courses to determine which prerequisites are required for your next academic year. Some one-day emphasis classes can be taken at any time, but core classes typically must be taken in sequence.

The core classes you are taking in your Natural Health Program will count toward your emphasis certification, but your emphasis 'electives' will not count toward the Natural Health Program.

No. Alumni and guest students do not need an advisor meeting to attend a single class. You simply complete the Alumni/Guest Registration Form before the class date.

You will need to complete the Emphasis Certification Enrollment Agreement and the Individual Class Registration Form. Forms and payment must be submitted at least 10 days prior to the class beginning.

Scheduling & Class Availability

Core classes are offered on weekends (Friday - Sunday), while one-day emphasis classes may have varying schedules. Emphasis classes are one-day classes, generally held on either Saturday or Sunday, but some are offered during the week. The class schedule guide will list exact dates and times.

It is best to meet with your academic advisor to review the yearly schedule and build a long-term plan. Complete your core courses as they come around in the program. Keep an eye out for the courses offered each year through the certification program.

Core classes must be taken in order by year, while emphasis classes are stand-alone and can usually be taken at any time they are offered, unless they have prerequisites.

Yes. The Naturopathic Institute publishes class schedules 3-6 months in advance to help students plan ahead.

Yes. Each class requires registration and payment. Fees vary depending on the class, and payment is due upon submission of your registration form. View the tuition page for more information.

No. The fee for students enrolled in the certification plan is $175, while the fee for alumni or guest students is $145.

Yes. Once all requirements are completed at the end of the program, you will receive a certificate that can be displayed in your practice or used as a credential for professional recognition.

Yes. If you indicate CEUs on your registration form, a Certificate of Attendance will be mailed to you within a few days after completing the class.
