Corey Winters was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and moved to Michigan when she was six. She always had a love for singing and music, and so she studied Opera and Piano in school in Boston’s New England Conservatory of Music. Her other life, travel, took her overseas after college, where Corey lived in Turkey and the Netherlands. She finally moved back to New York City, and after a few years of the most intense living chaos in NYC one can experience, she moved back to Michigan, knowing that the city’s rhythm was not conducive to her long-term health.
Corey became a Board Certified Naturopathic Doctor in 2018. She is an instructor at the Institute teaching Sound Therapy and Color Therapy classes. She is also an intuitive healer, researcher of energetic medicine, ancient civilizations and collective consciousness, former opera singer and a yoga/fitness instructor.
Here is how Corey got to where she is today, including her education at the Naturopathic Institute of Therapies and Education.
Corey decided to become a natural health practitioner while studying music at Indiana University. She was driving a car that did not even have a cassette player, but she had her portable player on her lap, listening to Dr. Royal Lee, founder of Standard Process. He was speaking about what Vitamin B12 deficiencies can do in the human body. Corey remembers thinking that it was the most fascinating piece of information she has ever heard. At that moment, she knew that she needed to change her study and go into health. Even today, she has brought her love of music and natural health together as her passion.
During Corey’s earlier years, her grandfather had visited a Naturopathic Doctor. After experiencing first-hand the help one can receive from a Naturopathic Doctor, he urged Corey into pursuing that career path. Corey’s grandfather lived to see her in her final year of school, passing just a month before her graduation.
When looking for a school, Corey chose the Naturopathic Institute because it had the most comprehensive and traditional naturopathy program compared to others that she had researched. Corey also felt the instant pull that made her absolutely “know” she was in the right place upon visiting. She enrolled at the Naturopathic Institute and never questioned her decision, knowing it was the right one.
As a student, Corey received support from her entire family, especially her grandfather, who envisioned her becoming a naturopath at a young age. Because of previous health issues after a trip to South Africa, where she became seriously ill and overcoming them naturally, Corey’s supporters knew that this was her calling and that she had God’s strength behind her. Becoming a Board Certified traditional Naturopathic Doctor was a dream realized.
Now, she is Dr. Winters, and she currently works at her private office in Brighton, Michigan, seeing clients for naturopathic consultations and bodywork. She also has clients that she works with from around the country remotely. She teaches free classes most months at The Better Health Store in Novi, Michigan. She is even branching out to be their media personality for TV and radio advertising. Getting started in her location flowed relatively seamlessly for her. Since she was already practicing as a Holistic Nutritionist and seeing clients for yoga and fitness training, naturopathy fit right in. Also, she was building a practice because of word of mouth and teaching free classes as part of her homework from the Institute.
Dr. Winters found other interests while attending the Institute, including energy medicine and energy bodywork which she is working on today. She has taken some additional Advanced Polarity classes that have shifted the work she does with her clients. She is also researching advanced energy devices that she can use in teaching. Frequency medicine in the form of audible sound, visual color, subsonic and ultrasonic frequencies is where Dr. Winters sees the future of medicine going. She is excited about designing healing energy devices with her amazing engineering husband! Dr. Winters is an eternal teacher and student. She is most happy when she is learning and sharing new ideas and concepts. One of her favorite classes at the Institute was Sound Therapy and Color Therapy. It explained the underlying fabric of the universe to her. And now, she is teaching the Color Therapy and Sound Therapy class at the Institute.
Looking back on Dr. Winters’ journey, she sums up her experiences and educational endeavors at the Institute as a dream truly realized. From a very young age, she knew that she wanted to be a Naturopathic Doctor. She is grateful that she can bring people through illnesses and diseases of all kinds. She gained incredible knowledge that one could learn from the Institute, but she also found her soul family! The people at the Institute are genuinely remarkable and are now a part of her for the rest of her life!
Dr. Winters knew that the Naturopathic Institute would be excellent but had no idea the magical journey it would take her on–her expectations were beaten!
Dr. Winters leaves some advice for those reading her story:
It is easy to get caught up in the busyness of our day-to-day: work, household duties, kids, etc., and forget to take the time to tune oneself every single day. It does not have to be an elaborate ritual that takes a tremendous amount of time.
It can be as simple as a few cleansing breaths in the sunlight. To Prospective Students: The “Magic” you dreamed of as a child is REAL! To Currently Enrolled Students: Hold tight; it’s only going to get more REAL! To Alumni: We have all glimpsed the Magic–now the journey begins!
